Physician
Job Summary:
Provides primary medical care in a clinical setting. Ensures quality assurance standards are met by following all guidelines of Jackson County Hospital District and Jackson County Medical Clinic. Performs hospital inpatient rounds if applicable.
Job Qualifications:
A. Personal Job-Related Skills: Effective oral and written communication skills. Skills in counseling and leadership and management abilities.
B. Licensure: Texas Medical License
C. Technical Training: Current CPR, ACLS, PALS and ATLS when required by Trauma Standards.
D. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Provides comprehensive patient care to individuals, families, and communities.
1. Utilizes training and expert knowledge to identify areas of need based on protocols to assess, treat, and refer as necessary.
2. Demonstrates competency of physician skills based on knowledge of physician role and all care provided.
3. Teaches patients health education/preventative medicine.
4. Counsels patients on medical problems, expected effects of treatment, dietary measures, and other therapeutic health maintenance measures.
5. Obtains a complete history of chief complaints and other problems on patient presentation.
6. Performs pertinent exams directed to patient’s history and complaints.
7. Requests or performs routine laboratory tests, requests x-ray procedures and requests other diagnostic tests or procedures.
8. Reviews and interprets ECGs and x-rays.
9. Collects specimens for pathologic examination.
10. In emergency situations, administers lifesaving procedures.
11. Coordinates patient care with other members of health care team and Jackson County Hospital.
B. Accomplishes inpatient services as directed.
1. Collects history and conducts physical exams.
2. Initiates diagnostic and therapeutic orders.
3. Documents all care provided.
Other Significant Requirements:
A. Maintains HIPAA requirements and all other confidentiality.
B. Provides direct service to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
C. Interacts with patients, family members, medical staff members and other department managers on a continual basis.
D. Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.
E. Respects the primary nature of patient’s needs in all contacts.
F. Monitors the need for quality improvements and participates in the Hospital District Quality Improvement Program.
G. Meets applicable Medicare standards.
H. Follows additional assignments as assign as well as all items included in employment contract.
