PRN Radiology Tech (Days)
General Description: Under the supervision of the Radiologist, performs diagnostic radiographic procedures on patients. This includes all modalities for which the technologist has been trained and for which proficiency and competency has been demonstrated.

OSHA Rating: Blood-borne Pathogens Class 1.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited program in Radiology Technology.

Credentials: American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT), Texas Medical Board (TMB), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Job Skills:Knowledge of radiologic equipment and procedures. Additional modality knowledge and proficiency are preferred and encouraged which would include CT, Mammography, Ultrasound and MRI.

Experience: Prefer one year of experience as a Registered Technologist.

Requirements: Duties require moderate standing, walking, twisting, reaching, and handling of instruments and equipment. The ability to lift fifty (50) pounds and occasional heavy lifting are also necessary for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Radiology Technologist will have certain essential duties and responsibilities for which he/she will be monitored and evaluated on an annual basis. These duties and responsibilities will be conducted under the direction of the Radiology Department Manager, Radiologist, or other Physician.
1. Provides procedures as directed by the ordering physician in accordance with accepted procedure protocols established by the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
2. Follows established procedures to assure quality of services and timely reporting of results.
3. Follows established proper protocol for the administration of contrast media to patients. Follows established protocol for the reporting of all contrast media reactions.
4. Follows established protocols for ensuring that requested procedures are performed on the proper patient.
5. Instructs patients in proper advanced preparation for exams, as needed.
6. Transports patients to and from the department. If patient is unable to be transported, portable equipment will be brought to the patient, when applicable, and proper shielding protocols will be used to protect those that may be in the immediate area of radiation exposure.
7. Ensures that equipment control settings are adjusted to properly obtain optimal images.
8. Verifies correct exam is being performed that films are properly marked and are properly identified with pertinent patient information and correct exam is being performed.
9. Provides for appropriate care for all patients according to the patient’s age and mental status. Assures that equipment necessary for patient safety and comfort are always utilized.
10. Utilizes department supplies and equipment in a proper manner to ensure patient safety and proper function of the Radiology Department. This includes cleaning of equipment between patient use and practicing Universal Precautions with all supplies and equipment.
11. Performs quality control procedures on equipment as dictated by equipment manufacturers’ recommendations. Notifies Department Manager of any results which could affect patient care or proper use of equipment.
12. Follows established protocols for reporting the need for equipment repairs and informs departments that will be impacted by the unavailability of equipment and establish approximate availability time.
13. Maintains records of patient visits and statistics as directed by the Department Manager.
14. Files paperwork and provides copies of films as needed.
15. Records and provides charges for procedures performed.
16. Prepares and maintains patient and department records and reports as needed.
17. Attends periodic meetings to review issues identified under the quality assurance plan and works to facilitate resolutions to any issues deemed necessary.
18. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with JCHD policies and procedures.
19. Follows established proper Infection Control policies in accordance with those established by the hospital’s Infection Control Manager.
20. Promotes positive patient relations as well as positive intradepartmental relations.
21. Maintains and promotes proper customer service attitude and actions toward patients, visitors, vendors, and hospital staff members.
22. Maintains applicable regulatory standards (CMS, TMB, etc.) for the Radiology Department to promote hospital compliance.

These duties and responsibilities shall be conducted with diligence, accuracy, and efficiency. As new technology, new regulation, or new policies are adopted, this document shall be reviewed and amended as needed to establish and maintain compliance.
