Full Time Insurance Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs clerical duties pertaining to Insurance claims process as assigned. Processes insurances claims in accordance with departmental policy. Assists with admissions and receives payments. Performs duties involved in receiving payments from patients and insurance companies, accounting for and depositing payments and assuring payment information is reflected on patient's account. Prepares reports and maintains A/R documents and files.
Performs A/R duties according to departmental policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Processes insurance claims
1. Prepares and transmits insurance claims to insurance companies.
2. Prepares claims for supplemental insurance indicating amount due from Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial and other carriers, and charges for non-covered days and expenses.
3. Processes electronic claims submissions.
4. Performs follow-up on filed insurance claims.

B. Receives and processes payments from insurance and patients by check, cash, direct deposit, or credit card
1. Identifies amount of payment and prepares a receipt for patient.
2. Insures payment information is processed so that proper application to the patient's account can be made.
3. Accepts payments and provides assistance to patients with account questions.

C. Responds to correspondence
1. Responds to questions from insurance companies, patients and other hospital departments regarding billing.
2. Sends out letters to patients when insurance company is requesting additional information.

D. Checks account status

1. Contacts insurance companies to check status of accounts.
2. Performs follow-up action on rejections and questionnaires from insurance companies.

E. Posts accounts
1. Posts receipts and adjustments to all accounts.
2. Posts receipts to bad debt accounts.
3. Posts all contractuals to accounts receivables.

F. Performs cash control
1. Balances daily cash postings.
2. Prepares daily deposits.

G. Accounts for and deposits patients payments received
1. Reconciles funds received with receipts.
2. Reconciles cash boxes when required and audits petty cash.
3. Prepares credit card transmittals on a daily basis.

H. Prepares reports and maintains files
1. Prepares report of daily receipts and other periodic reports as directed.
2. Reviews remittance advices to assure payment information is routed to proper account.
3. Maintains cash receipts and cash report files.
4. Prepare daily revenue reports.
5. Prepares daily and month-end closing reports.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS:
A. Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
B. Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
C. Maintains a proper customer service attitude in contacts with patients, visitors and other staff members.
D. Assist with other Business Office functions when required.
E. Follows safety and infection control policies and guidelines for the Hospital.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent.

B. PERSONAL JOB-RELATED SKILLS: Typing speed of 45wpm, operation of ten key adding machine/calculator. Familiar with operating personal computers, familiarity with insurance claim processing procedures.

C. LICENSURE, REGISTRY OR CERTIFICATION: None required.

D. EXPERIENCE: Previous clerical experience with medical terminology and insurance background.

E. TECHNICAL TRAINING: Office Equipment and Computer training. Accounting and bookkeeping desired.

F. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Some bending, stooping, and reaching are required with the lifting of items up to a weight of 40 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
