We offer the new, Softer Mammogram!

Jackson HealthCare Center is certified as a Softer Mammogram Provider, a distinction awarded only to an elite group of healthcare facilities. That means we provide a soft foam cushion, called MammoPad®, for each woman's personal use during every screening mammogram.

As a Softer Mammogram Provider, we make it a top priority to ensure your mammogram is warm and comfortable.  It's one way we provide the tender loving care you deserve.

The MammoPad breast cushion was designed for women by a female breast surgeon.  It is FDA-cleared, does not impair image quality, and makes it easier for you to be relaxed, warm and comfortable during your exam.  That helps our highly skilled mammography technologists achieve the best possible mammogram.

To schedule a Softer Mammogram, or if you have other questions, call us in the Radiology Dept. at (361)782-5241, ext. 236.

---Theresa Huggins, RT(R), Administrative Director of the Radiology Dept. and Certified Mammograher

The American Cancer Society recommends women get their first mammogram at age 40.  Women between the ages of 40-49 should get a mammogram every 1-2 years, and after age 50 women should get a mammogram annually.  If female relatives have had cancer, this puts you in a higher risk category and your doctor may want you to have your first mammogram at an earlier age, and follow a different schedule of receiving ongoing mammograms. Mammography uses a safe, low dose x-ray that produces an image of the inside of the breast on film.   Over time the amount of radiation required to produce a high-quality output has decreased making mammograms very safe.  They are not painful.   Some women complain of temporary discomfort during the procedure because there is a small amount of pressure applied to the breasts.  You may want to schedule your mammogram at the time during your monthly cycle when your breasts are generally the less sensitive.  Most women never complain about discomfort at all, and the peace of mind that comes from getting your mammogram outweighs any momentary discomfort.

A good way for women to remember to get a mammogram when needed is to hook up with a close female friend or relative and use the “buddy system”.  Schedule your mammograms around the same time, encourage each other to get regular mammograms, and on the day of your mammograms, use it as a day to celebrate your female friendship.

The Radiology Department at Jackson Healthcare Center can perform your next  mammogram. Call Jackson Healthcare Center at (361) 782-5241 for an appointment.  It’s a great thing to do for you and for all of those that care about your health and happiness.
