Bone Density Testing at Jackson Healthcare Center What is it? Bone densitometry is a simple and painless test performed to measure your bone mineral density (BMD) or more simply put, your bone mass. As we age, we begin to lose bone mass but each of us at a different rate. Those of us that lose a considerable amount of bone mass are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis. Testing to obtain your BMD measurement can help detect osteoporosis before fractures occur, determine a patient’s amount of bone loss, and help predict your chances of bone fractures in the future. If you have
been placed on a bone replacement therapy previously, bone densitometry can be
used to monitor the effectiveness of the therapy. How is
testing performed? The exam is
performed using a bone density scanner. Trained
health professionals will perform your test and submit the results to your
physician. The exam is completely
painless, and usually takes just a few minutes.
Depending on the exact test your doctor has recommended will determine
the length of the testing. Where is the
test performed? Jackson Healthcare Center performs bone densitometry. If you have additional questions about bone densitometry, contact Jackson Healthcare Center at (361) 782-5241 or email us.
